The scholarship was set up by the family of Te Moananui a Kiwa Ngarimu
for the children of 28 Maori Battalion soldiers
to attend high school.
Now the scholarship aims to assist those
wishing to pursue tertiary study in institutions throughout the country.
The Ngarimu scholarship is worth $10,000.

who recently graduated from their programme.

and the thoughts of love and peace fill me.
It is a great honour to receive this award.
Advancing a new strategy
for the physical and mental health of the tribe,

This is a very special gift from the elders of the past.
This talented rugby player is focussed on creating a strategy
to raise the self-esteem of young people.
I am very pleased. This is a great honour for me.
I congratulate the other recipients.
We all know how difficult the pursuit of education can be.
and as our elders said, 'Feathers enable a bird to fly.'
The recipients are selected
by the Ministry of Education and the scholarship board.
Today we have received this scholarship in his honour.
We will strive to follow in his footsteps
to dedicate ourselves mind, body and soul
to the well-being of the Maori people
and contribute to the advancement of NZ.
The Minister of Education believes that this aids in revitalizing
of matauranga Maori.
