In this class I'm going to show you how to develop an Excel spreadsheet
wherein you or someone else can use it to the capture scores and then develop averages for each student within your class.
This lesson will be fairly simple and straightforward and I'm not designing it to
to insult anyone's intelligence. But what I am trying to do is to develop
a kind of a quick class on how to develop a spreadsheet that would help a teacher in the conduct of thier operation at school
Firstly, I've got Excel opened here and what you see is a spreadsheet that is blank and what I'm going to do first is title this sheet
Average Grades
and what I'm doing isn't just typing in the name and to do so you go ahead and double click in the tab below and then we're going to do above is
I am going to type in Student 1
here
and then with Excel what you can do is grab the lower corner
of each cell and drag it down so as you see it's building so let's just say we have 11 students
so in a fill series situation it's going to have Student 1 to 11 automatically added as you drag it down the spreadsheet
and then to expand it to fit
the cell for all that text, double click up here
between the two columns
and you see it automatically expanded to that area. Now I forgot to add a row up top so, what I am going to do is right click on row one
and I am going to go insert. And what that does is insert a row
and then I am going to insert a column for Grade. Let's say Grade 1.
And then the drag it across to fill in the columns for the various grades.
And see will have 10 test or 10 graded events during that period.
OK. So what we've got is a spreadsheet that has the Grades 1 through 10
which are the different graded events and students 1 through 11 on the left side in column A.
Now what we can do is use this column L here as the Average
we'll say that's the average for all grades
I'll show you how to get that in just a moment.
to continue on with the class 1:00 AM going to do now is sure you have to enter the information into the cells for each grade events for instance
Stephen Wynn gets an 89 and the first test seat tickets as 78 on the outs on the test on just one
are rated at one student reads 45
and 89 and 98 and so on and so forth was to say 78, 77
89
87
and 67 and let's just say Student 11 gets a 78. Now in order to get these cells you would fill the information in
but for expediency's sake, drag the numbers across then in this box I am going to select fill series
and the same for this one, actually the same for all of these except for because I've got a 98 here, filling series would not work out very well.
So, I'm just going to drag them across as it stands.
And then, what you do is to get your average
you would type in a formula which is =SUM
and then (B2
then : K2
in parentheses and then divided 10 graded events so the average for student 1 is 93.5 and
then we can drag that formula down by left clicking on the right corner lower right corner and drag it down to here.
So, the average for each student as you can see clearly is posted in that column now.
and if you wished, you could center them all and to do so, you select the areas you want to
center the information on and you can place the information centered in the cell.
To add grid lines around the information
you can select the area you want have borders around and select all borders and
duplicate the issue or operation again, you do it this way. Now you can also add
colors, which
is the fill command and let's say we want to have that in green and we want our students to be in blue.
and there you have it. You can also adjust the colors of the text and you can also adjust the size, and boldness and
font. There's almost every function you have within a Word document, you can also do in Excel.
You can find more information about this event web site which will be posted after this short video.
As mentioned, you can find this and other information
at the training site that Microsoft office operates
which is at this website.
If you go there, you can find information about Excel
OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and more.
It's beneficial even for the person who is not such a novice and its free which makes it even better!
So, hope you found this information useful and
