My name is Steve Miranda and I'm the managing director at Cornell University's
center for advanced HR studies. Prior to coming to Cornell,
I was also the head of HR at the Society for Human Resource
Management, or SHRM as many of you may know it.
Before joining SHRM, I was an HR executive with Lucent
Technologies where my HR responsibilities took me around the world.
This included a three and a half years stay in the Asia
Pacific region where I was responsible for Lucent's HR
practices and programs for almost eleven thousand employees.
One of the interesting things about my background as I speak
about the issues of social media, is that the first half of
my career was actually not spent in human resources. But actually
on the technology front, where I spent sixteen years doing large
scale software projects for AT&T Bell Laboratories.
This combination of the technology background and my last sixteen
years as an HR executive gives me a unique perspective in
terms of how the policies and the programs for our people intersect
with the rapidly evolving pace of technology today who. What. What. At..
