I'm often asked what the difference is between hot stone massage and Swedish massage. The
difference is that with hot stone massage you're actually applying all the same strokes
that you would with Swedish massage, except with stones. You can access the body with
the hands in a lot more variety of areas and with more nuance than you can with the stones.
The stones, while they provide you more depth faster, they actually limit the areas of the
body that you can access comfortably.
Many people like to have the hot stones on their body, because it's warm and it's relaxing,
and so it adds a whole other layer of nuance to the Swedish massage. Some people prefer
the Swedish massage because they just enjoy having someone's hands on their body, and
you're actually allowed to get into more of the muscles with your hands than you are with
the stones. At the end of the day, you're going to have to try which one you're going
to want to do, and decide which you like better, but I encourage you to.
