Greetings to all black belt bearers!
In this video i would like to talk about the black belts. I don't want to talk about the controversy that surrounds this achievement and I don't want discuss fake "masters".
No! I would like to talk about the actual black belt, which I think many of you already got.
I guess everyone who's practicing martial arts heard this famous phrase - "the sword is the soul of the samurai". I sincerely believe that “the black belt IS the soul of the karate”.
Why? Well, black belt is a great achievement and the ultimate goal for everyone who have just started his or her path in the world of karate.
Black belt is like a thin red line which if crossed divides your life on two halves - before and after.
At the same time, the black belt as the achievement is just a beginning, a small step after which you can be recognised with acceptance into this special club of black belt owners.
Here’s my black belt. It’s old and rugged, you can see stitches and with the years passed the belt wears even more.
Of course I could take care of my belt and cut these stitches or maybe buy a new one. But I never will do it. Because...
...the weariness of my belt is the best reminder of all my sweat, of all my cracked bones, all my dislocated joints, of all my hard work through all those years of practice. My belt is the best way to remember all of it .
And when you see someone with pale and wear down black belt, you may assume how many years of exercises and practice got this man.
As we all know it’s very easy to recognise people who are before their first dan rank (they all got different colored belts), but when you deal with black belts it becoming very tricky.
After each new exam and test the black belt stays same. And only if you will ask the person with black belt or make an assumption by using the belts weariness you will know how many years of practice he or she have.
If you tear apart your Gi, but it can be easily replaced, but the belt always stays. Belt shares the path of martial arts with its owner.
By the tradition you not taking your black belt to wash. You keep wearing it since the day you’ve got it. Personally i never washed mine and i keep wearing it since the day number one.
I believe it holds a special kind of spirit that owner brings into dojo. It’s really something very special. That’s why you never will see the black belt in the laundry.
That is why it is a great honor to receive black belt from your sensei - the greatest expression of thrust to you as a true heir, as a keeper of tradition.
And that is why I take these two simple words “black belt” as a real showcase of great efforts and dedication to the Martial Arts Path!
