De Beer Lakfabrieken in Lelystad celebrates its 100-year anniversery.
The company was erected in 1910 in Leiderdorp by Henry De Beer.
In 1980 the company moved to Lelystad.
To celebrate the 100-year anniversery the 85-year old daughter of the founder, Melanie De Beer, revealed a bust of her father.
Dad, here I come.
It it truly him.
It's very nice, it has been so long.
I could get along with him very well.
Yes, I meant something to him.
And I could get everything I wanted from him, that was the best part!
She was dad's pride and joy. Melanie De Beer was the first daughter of a couple who got eight children in total.
The family has lived in The Hague for a long time.
Father works hard and is not often home.
On the 3th of March 1945 the home of the family is destroyed by de Bezuiderhout bombings.
Father ran outside and yelled:
'Have I been working for 32 years to get this?!' Because I home was gone.
We couldn't go back to our home.
Herman, his son, eventually took over his work.
De Beer Lakfabrieken would grow to a company with international allure, with nearly 200 employees.
Since 2004 De Beer is part of the American Valspar Corporation and is no longer a family company.
Still, the famous bear has never disappeared from the logo.
And if mr. De Beer could look from above his cloud? 'Yes, he would be very proud, it is in the end his accomplishment.'
