Marhban Ahlan wa Sahlan and welcome to another edition of Tasali
Bringing you bite sized Arabic snacks from the heart of Amman
I'm your host Sohail and with me is the interesting man. Hani Dahsan
Marhaban Mr. Hani how are you doing today?
I just gotta هات من الآخر because I got a lot of work to do.
Mr. Hani
say that again
I said هات من الآخر because I got a lot of work to do.
Okay هات من الآخر is
From the last, right?
So what are you talking about from the last?
from the last
It's a phrase OK
It has two meanings
The first meaning is an that
an expression that something is great
like so weird like for example. Sohail: Awesome and weird...
like it can be referred to
anything anything object male or female whatever
like you know you just saw a very nice movie
this film is هات من الآخر
so in Arabic you would say هذ الفلم من الآخر؟
Sohail: This film is from the last Hani: من الآخر is just a phrase
just plug it in with any subject you want like film
food people
This guy is من الآخر
you انت من الآخر
you're actually from the first as far as I am concerned
now why is the last the best? What does it mean?
A great film, this film is from the last
Well what does it mean to begin with the concept
it's like
you're giving me
the meat and potatoes
of the subject
instead of having to go through you know
and go over the hills and under the valleys
searching for your satisfaction yeah you just give me the meat and potatoes and
this is what i want. The quest like you are on a quest for the best
movie
and you thought you'd find at the end of your life yes suddenly you find it right now
and say well this film is right from the end is like is this what i always wanted yes
It's like a dream come true. It's great.
the the only problem but this phrase
is that
it's kind of it's very Ammany
okay it's uh...
it's kind of sophisticated
It's kind of like saying 'It's tight'
This guy's tight. This film is so tight.
This song is so tight. Sohail: So one last time.
من الآخر sometimes I hear you saying it differently
ملآخر so you can drop the nun
I think the reason why we drop the
ن is just to shorten the word
But ملآخر
Egyptians use it.
Now the term ملآخر
also has a different meaning
is what the rest of the arabs use
so the rest of the Arabs do use it but with the second meaning you are about to give us.
yes the second meaning
actually means from the end
okay like whenever
I'm sitting and I'm having a conversation with someone.
and he is trying to tell me something. Something specific
he starts off with giving the disclaimers introductions uh...
you know headlines and I really want to know.
I want him to cut to the chase and he's not cutting to the chase
beating around the bush. Hani: I want him to give me his beef.
And he's giving me all these
he is giving me all these introductions. Sohail: Fine so the phrase is:
هات من الآخر
So hat like we say in English. Hat means bring
Give it to me from the end
Fine Mr. Hani that sounds like a lot of fun and is a good way to end the show today.
Ustadh end it من الآخر
i need to go
MaSalaama
Yes Thank You
