Overfilled wheelie-bins
and problems also in Palermo,
Either in the centre or outskirts.
Dealing with the waste crisis...
.a problem which falls upon the Region of Sicily.
At Bellolampo, the rubbish dump in Palermo,
the AMIA, the waste management society,
takes action in order to limit the alarm of the leachute;
involved in an inquiry of the prosecutor's office.
These results make us hope for the best,
in the future.
We, the association Zero Waste Trapani,
today we ask
a plan for the waste management,
sustainable, through the door-to-door collection.
How many tons will be buried?
It's not because we are from the south,
that we don't want to do the waste separation.
Finding solutions of this problem
is not at all easy.
The concept of waste in nature doesn't exist.
Waste finally embodies the crisis.
The administration has been tormented,
as if nothing was done,
whereas it had the courage to invest.
I think that we should talk about the waste separation among people.
The dump of Bellolampo.
Here nobody can film,
because there are 27 closed circuit security cameras.
We are still filming.
Cameras are connected with the Ministry in Rome.
They do not play, there...
We are on the edge of the dump. These are the ancient dump tanks.
Now I'd like to know where they are putting the rubbish.
Here there is the leachate! The lake covered the entire area.
This will be a dump tank, till here.
The Lord did one good thing,
that is the world, which is round, but you can't make it square.
And we will have a new crisis.
Before Easter we are in crisis,
because even the holding tank will be full.
That one was the first dump.
It was there because here there was the torrent Celone
Starting from an intensive waste separation,
we refuse the idea that the solution can
lie in the burning of waste.
The true great technology is our hands.
Only in this way, waste can become a resource.
The inventor of the so called zero waste strategy
Professor Paul Connett.
40% of waste is organic in Sicily,
that can become composting,
solving the problem of our agricultural lands,
and of the desertification in Sicily.
When we can kill two birds with one stone.
The organic fraction, according to the zero waste strategy,
we must absolutely not trying to make it disappear.
Societies created ad hoc for putting ex politicians in.
Here we have to start a revolution!
Till now, they keep on asking me: you have all these projects...
but who brought you to Sicily? Me...the dialect...
Once here there were just second hand stalls
This is the New One moving forward
Here the rubbish has a long life cycle...
It's one of the most healthy ways of dealing with the waste crisis.
Thanks to this stuff,
we raise our families.
Rubbish is disposed anyway, but it's not directly destroyed,
but reused.
-Does it work? -Perfectly!
Give me ten euro and it's ok.
The question is:
why don't you do the waste separation in Trapani?
But if we give the means to people, they are going to do concrete things,
because it becomes an automatic behaviour.
A normal citizen is already a environmentalist.
The environmental politics should be the mainstay of everything.
Waste doesn't exist...
Before Easter we are in crisis...
We raise our families.
When we can kill two birds with one stone.
Once upon a time and even now...
there was a "nice" unauthorized dumping ground in front of my house.
I decided to start from this to make a film about waste.
Or better, about why objects become waste
"Once upon a time" because I tell this story
to a mythical character, called Colapesce, a boy half human and half fish,
a kind of ancient environmentalist,
who decided to remain on the sea floor
to save his Sicily.
