I'm Beverley, I'm a second year Child branch student.
I chose this course for various reasons.
I'd been wanting to be a nurse for a long time but I had a
very sick child and it kind of pushed me into that direction.
The best part about the course has to be placement.
I'm currently out on placement at the moment in a surgical ward
and we're dealing with children with various needs
from appendicitis, to tonsillectomy, to biopsies of
undiagnosed cancers, and we deal with a range of children
from neonates up to 16, 17.
The best part about being in university is the Skills Lab,
because you get to learn all the skills and take them with you out
to the placements. Also I really enjoy the social side of
meeting up with my friends for the seven week period
when we're in the university. It's nice to get back into
university and socialise again with your friends because
when you're out on placement you have revision, assignments
and also working full-time, that can be full-on, but it's
really enjoyable, and it's really easy to write the assignments
when you're out there and actually with the patients, and
physically able to assess them and help them out and
you can write all that up and evaluate it, it's fantastic.
