Hi, i'm Joe and here is the 31DOVER.COM guide to Cognac.
Cognac is the world's best-known Brandy,
traditionally loved by high society.
Like the great French wines Cognac must be produced in a specified area
by specified methods
from specified grapes to carry the illustrious name.
It must also be distilled twice in copper pot stills which retains more flavour.
Like Whisky and Rum the quality depends on the raw materials and how long it's aged in
oak barrels
which must be french limousine oak.
There are also of various grades from VS to XO
which denote how long they have been aged for. Cognac is traditionally drunk
after dinner from a snifter or Brandy glass.
The particular shape of the glass also known as a Brandy balloon
enhances the taste and smell.
Cognac is the base for classic cocktails such as a Sidecar
or a Brandy Alexander, it can also be enjoyed in a long drink with soda or ginger ale
over ice.
