everybody i'm here with christine kolkata
and uh... we're going to be talking for a few minutes about what i'm calling
tips
for transformative learning
in history
and we'll talk about the first comes out of the east there's the term
beginner's mind
how does that we learn
pushing everything new which is exactly what we're talking about earlier
is that approaching it surely that's familiar like a childhood
with curiosity
uh... i'm gonna suggest that that's really keen to learning
in in the course of the class
for example were i'm reading of books that may be cover material that's new
but also material that's familiar
it means keeping my eyes wide open for new insights on the never settle the
familiar
and i think that beginner's mind uh...
it actually makes learning pleasurable for me
if i approach material no matter whether it's new or old
with the idea that to the american something new
the image that is a reminder the spiral
even when i come to material
that i'm familiar with
that i'm coming a full circle and that's that there's a sense of
one of the same person that came across this material
uh... year ago or even a week ago constantly changing
so forward by relationships interviews
so-and-so just begin his mind and want to the second trip
has to do with
making a ship from learning passively to learning actively
the image i have is that i can approach my learning whether it's reading or in
writing for classmate or faculty mentor i can approach that passively basically
feed me with knowledge
or i can take a different approach i actually think think of it
involving a shift from being a passive learner
to being an active mentor
what i mean by that is that anything that i learned to say that i'm reading a
book chapter
that i set out as my goal that within forty eight hours couple days after
reading
whatever chapter of his
that i set my mind and to share that with somebody could be a family member a
friend
um... classmates power can be a client of if i'm working in counseling
but the and working actively at teaching what i'm learning to someone else
and overcome all the years of teaching
that the material are invested is material that i actually teach egg it's
it's almost like goes into my bone memory or something like that
uh... and so it's it's a different kind of learning
well things that's helpful i think it's really called upon for us no health
professions
is to translate
oftentimes complex theory or research to translate into english and this this
piece of and talking about brian
i learn actively and i learned to go teaching someone else
you really out forces me to translate complicated concepts
into boil a person can understand otherwise they will have an interest in
silicon keeps me on this
and this is interesting that also helps me to learn things by
parts quickly as possible trying to convey to someone
else so
tips for transformative learning first women's as to adopt beginner's mind
reproach material new world
and the second is to really work that learning and actively and mentoring
others with popular
