Jesse Billauer (Founder): I just wanted to say that it's an honor to be able to have
created the They Will Surf Again program for all of the people with disabilities. Any surfer
knows that being in the water is just such a beautiful experience that you get to have
that independence and that freedom to forget the troubles on land, to forget being paralyzed,
to forget any troubles that you have at home, work, relationships. The water is like you're baptized.
Event Attendee: The same joy of the ocean is what we all have in common. It doesn't
matter if we're in a wheelchair or if we're able bodied.
Event Attendee: The only thing that surfing is ever going to give you is just a stoked
attitude and happiness that you just can't find anywhere else — besides in the ocean.
And you can see it on everyone's faces if you look everywhere around, too. That's why
I'm doing it — to share the love.
Jesse Billauer: Because we're here as a family, I feel like it's a group of individuals with
like-minded hearts, souls. And that's the beautiful thing about these events. We're
bringing together people of all walks of life, all roles of life, and these events couldn't
really happen without great sponsors that put their money where their mouth is. I would
really like to thank Sharp Rehabilitation Hospital.
Dave Brown (System Director, Sharp HealthCare Rehabilitation Services): When we leave here
today, whether you're in the water or not in the water, I believe that you're all going
to leave with an experience that you're never going to forget for the rest of your lives.
Event Attendee: Best time ever, right there. So glad I came and did it. Thank you, blue
team. Life rolls on, baby.
