- Okay, it's officially silly o'clock in the morning,
so welcome to the Rise of an Empire,
at like 4:30 in the morning (laughs).
So, the big question is this.
How are business owners like us, the ones that took
the leap of faith to go it alone even when everyone
else around us told us it wasn't going to work,
the ones that had the guts and determination
to succeed standing on our own two feet,
the ones who are now wearing the word unemployable
with a badge of honour.
How do we run a business in a way that helps us make more,
provide more, be more, all without hiring
or being held hostage by an army of employees?
That is the question, and this right here
will give you the answers.
My name is Charlie Hutton,
and welcome to the Rise of an Empire.
Okay, good morning everybody.
So, it is super, super early, and today,
I am, oh man, I am so excited.
We have got a new member, a guy called David Taylor.
David Taylor is an absolute legend
on my favourite TV channel which is QVC.
Now, David is an inventor of a product,
he's the biggest seller of DIY products on QVC,
which is absolutely amazing.
For those of you interested, they're actually targeted at,
I think he has to sell 500 pounds worth of product a second,
I think it's a second, while they're on there,
which is incredible.
Today, what we're doing, we're heading down south,
or I'm heading down south.
I am loaded up already.
It's six o'clock, I've had (laughs) two cups of coffee.
Barney had us up at stupid o'clock last night.
He'd lost something in his bed, I don't know,
but he was up and making noise, so I've not had
much sleep since then, but we're heading down today
to shoot an infomercial for David, which is,
oh man, it's so exciting.
It's one of my favourite things in the whole wide world.
I love infomercials, I love stuff being sold on TV
and I love long form commercials.
This is just gonna be amazing.
Today, we're on set all day,
which I think is gonna be 12 hours or so I'm being told.
We're shooting testimonials, which is awesome.
I'm gonna get some real insight in how he gets
some super, super powerful testimonials for this
sort of thing and how they do it with the big bucks.
I'm told, although we're on set all day,
I think we're only getting about two minutes worth
of actual usable footage, which is kind of exciting.
I am pumped up and ready for today.
I don't think we can take the camera on set.
I think everything is kind of on lock down.
But I will report back when we get done.
Hopefully I'll have some insight,
some cool stuff to talk about and chat with you guys.
I think, hopefully if the traffic is okay,
we should be there in the next hour or so.
I might make a quick stop at Starbucks
and land a nice, big cappuccino to keep me awake
for the rest of the morning, and that will be amazing,
so let's so keep moving on the road and I will give you guys
an update when we get a little bit closer.
(funky upbeat music)
Okay, I buckled.
The coffee, the two cups before I left this morning
have officially worn off, so I'm gonna go get another
coffee at Newport Pagnell and hopefully a big cappuccino
is gonna keep me going until we get down to the set,
which will be amazing, so here we go.
Okay, that is a coffee locked and loaded.
I got me a big cappuccino and we're gonna go hit the road.
I gotta see what Dave Taylor is up to,
and hopefully the film crew are ready on all cylinders,
and the traffic isn't gonna bite me on the way down.
We've been on the road an hour or so already.
Not too far to go, let's go see what's happening now.
Okay, so, it's about 1:30.
I am sat here at Newport Pagnell Service Station.
I spent the morning with Dave Taylor on set, on camera.
It's been absolutely amazing.
Just enjoying a zinger burrito here,
curtesy of Kentucky Fried Chicken (mumbling).
The shoot this morning was absolutely amazing.
What we did today, in probably about four hours (laughs)
we probably got about 60 seconds worth of footage on camera
and it was showcasing the product, but more importantly,
what was really, really cool today,
we saw (mumbling) got put together.
It's what we're gonna be doing.
We're looking at launching his products
on Facebook and direct selling ads and that sort of thing.
What was super, super interesting now,
David, his product on QVC,
he's sold about 700,000 of these units worldwide.
He's sold a *** tonne of this product already.
But it was really, really cool to get to see
behind the scenes of how the home shopping type pitch works.
You know those 10, 15 minute infomercials.
Basically, the big key of what we saw today
was how much they dive in and probe for pains.
Ultimately, we spent all morning getting shots
and seeing things with the problems that people have
(mumbling)
Hitting the emotion, talking about it,
visualising, showcasing.
I think so many times when it comes to something
like selling our products or services, the trouble is
we're always told to focus on the benefits,
focus on the features, but actually, if you were to take
the advice of the direct selling (mumbling),
people that are shifting things like 700,000 units,
it's almost better, to some extent, to focus on the pain
and really, really drive down on the pain
and give the people a real understanding.
You truly understand the pain and the problem
they're suffering, and then ultimately you're gonna bring
the switch in and say, look, you've got this pain,
can I help you solve it?
Absolutely mind blowing how much energy (mumbling).
It was super, super cool.
I think we'll get back and start working on harder stuff.
I'm gonna start digging for more and more and more
and more pain because I think it can really paint
a bigger picture of what that pain looks like,
and then after the solution, that's where we get
the ultimate rapport with them.
So, very, very interesting.
I'm just gonna finish off my drink here
and then we're gonna jump back on the road.
I've got some Dan Kennedy as I'm listening in the car,
which his gonna be amazing,
and I will keep you guys posted as we get further on.
(funky upbeat music)
So, KFC is down, just on the way back now.
Whenever I'm in the car, and to be fair,
I do so much little driving now compared to what I used to.
I'm a big, sort of, podcast guy.
I've always got some Dan Kennedy stuff on.
I don't know what it's like for you guys,
but if I'm sat there and I'm listening to stuff in the car
and you hear that (mumbling) and you're like, man, ah,
this is gold, I need to jot this thing down
but you obviously can't write when you're driving.
I've got an awesome, awesome productivity hack
for you guys today.
This is what I do when I'm in that situation.
I've got the phone here.
Instead of on my phone, I just need to go, "Hey, Siri"
and Siri sort of wakes up, so let me run through this.
Hey, Siri!
Hey, Siri!
Siri kicks in, and you go, Siri, create a new note
that says, "Buy the book Ask by Ryan Levesque."
And Siri's gonna answer.
- [Siri] Okay, I created your note.
It said, can I see my rhythm?
- (laughs) So, Siri's got that sorted, locked and loaded.
It's in the notes, and then what do I do?
If I'm going through a podcast or something on the way home
or on the way to somewhere, I can just take those notes.
Awesome, I've got the notes down.
My big thing whenever I'm listening to audio
and doing that sort of thing, I mean,
it's great to get the information in, but unless you can
implement and actually do anything with that information,
it's a complete and utter waste of time.
It's really, really cool to have Siri to take these notes
and do this stuff for me.
You can set your phone up if you're sat here driving
and you can just say, "Hey, Siri."
You can ask them to create a note and it gets locked in
and that means you've got your notes taken for you
as you are going to,
I'm going to Dan Kennedy's Mind Hijack today.
I'm gonna have a load of notes when I get back.
It's gonna be super, super awesome.
Maybe I can go through them, we can pick out which ones
we want to implement and we can make it happen.
But what's really, really cool about that,
especially on a day like today where we've been on set
and filming and going through some stuff,
I can think about how I can apply all this stuff
that we've seen and what we've learned which is amazing.
SatNav is telling me I've got about an hour and quarter left
so I'm gonna keep driving, keep on trucking,
get back to Dan Kennedy and keep on taking some notes
with Siri and I'll see you guys in a bit.
