Hey guys. I'm Meghan. You're watching Bulldog Bites.
I'm standing here with History Instructor Art Burton.
Welcome to the show. SSC will be closed Friday in honor of Casmir
Pulaski. Can you tell me a little bit more about Casmir
Pulaski? Mr. Burton: Casmir Pulaski was a hero of the
American Revolution. He actually was from Poland, but he was brought
here to the United States to help organize the continental army.
Benjamin Franklin thought very highly of him, and he volunteered to come here.
He assisted General Washington with organizing the cavalry.
The cavalry is the soldiers that fought on horseback.
It was not organized very well until Casmir Pulaski came here and put some plans in place.
He was very successful with his endeavors. Meghan: Very interesting.
Why is it important that we celebrate Casmir Pulaski in Illinois?
Mr. Burton: I think it's incumbent upon us to serve the diversity in the city
We have a very large Polish population here in the city of Chicago.
We have for many years. It's one of the largest populations of Polish
descendants in the world. It's very good to be able to celebrate everyone's
diversity and culture in history and talk about the various ethnic groups that help
make up America. Meghan: Awesome. Thanks so much for all the
information. Be sure to enjoy your day off this Friday
for Pulaski Day. For Bulldog Bites, I'm Meghan.
We'll see you guys next time.
