Cerritos College serves over 24,000 students.
Several of these students mark "transfer to four-year institution"
as their immediate educational goal on the Cerritos admissions application.
So why doesn't the transfer center get inundated
with the students seeking the services available?
The transfer center went on a mission to find out if students knew
where the center was located, to see if they knew about free university tours
and in general any of the services that are offered.
So I hit the sidewalks across campus and approached random students with a few questions.
See for yourself what students said about the first question, where the center is located.
Do you know where the transfer center is located?
>> No.
>> No?
>> No. Sorry.
No.
>> No, not at all.
>> The transfer center --
[ Pause ]
>> Not really.
>> No? You don't have to know.
>> Yeah.
>> You do?
Where is it located?
>> It's in the building where is the financial aid office.
>> Yes.
>> Where is it located?
>> By the admissions office.
>> Outside the admissions building.
[ Pause ]
>> On the right side of the admissions building.
>> Um --
>> No. That way?
>> I don't know.
By the health office?
No. No, I don't.
Sorry.
>> Is it admissions?
>> It's near admissions, yes.
>> Oh, next to the testing building.
[ Cheering ]
>> Yeah.
[ Laughter ]
>> The transfer center is located in the career service area
of the administration building right next to the assessment center.
You can't miss us.
So did that surprise you?
Now check out how students responded when asked about their knowledge
of the transfer center's free university tours.
Did you know that the transfer center offers free university tours?
>> Oh, really?
>> Yes
>> Wow, that's great, yeah.
>> No, I didn't hear about that.
>> You didn't hear about that?
>> No, I did not know about that.
>> Really?
No, I didn't.
>> No, I didn't.
>> Wow. Let's continue.
The transfer center offers many services.
Let's take a look at the last question on students' awareness about our services.
Do you know of any of the transfer center services?
>> I'm pretty sure they deal with transfer things at universities.
>> Okay.
>> They help students, give students an idea of the number of units needed to transfer
and have them -- like the schools they want to go to.
>> Do you know any of the services the transfer center offers?
>> I'm not actually aware of that cause it's new.
>> Okay. That's all we wanted to know.
>> That's it?
>> That's it.
>> Thank you.
[ Laughter ]
>> They help you transfer out.
You can talk to a counselor.
The counselors will review if you have all your credits together, make sure you are ready
to go to a Cal State or a university.
And they let you know what opportunities you have,
what programs the universities specialize in.
Yeah.

to make a decision of where you prefer to go after attending Cerritos College.
To assist you with this decision-making process,
several university campus tours are offered during fall and spring term.
A tour schedule typically becomes available at the beginning
of each semester on the transfer center website.
Students can reserve their space to attend one or more free tours as early as three weeks prior
to the tour with a refundable deposit.
