Hey there, cats and kittens!
Would I like to go with you
to a gingerbread house and don't mind the hot oven?
Umm, let me
think about that for a second.
Umm, no!
Speaking of
dangerous enticements
and
a spooky twist
on a classic tale.
This week's
movie review is.....
In this variation
of a classic tale,
we find Hansel and Gretel, brother and sister,
are let out in the middle of the night
into the dark woods by their father.
While out in the words they discover a gingerbread house,
are captured, and are nearly eaten by an evil witch.
But they in turn kill her.
They grow up to become
famous witch hunters
and are hired by a village
to save a group of school children
from what looks to be
a nefarious purpose.
Now, this film
was in a lot of ways OK.
Hansel and Gretel
are both very likable,
and you will remember Jeremy Renner
from the Avengers.
I liked the weapon design.
I thought the directing was good
and the music was good,
and as I mentioned Jeremy Renner did a great job as the main
male heroic lead
and
Gretel,
pretty
slightly sassy
but very likable.
But nothing outstanding.
The costume design was also very good
and there is a troll character call Edward
who I thought was actually to me very, very interesting. One of the most interesting
aspects
of
the story.
Famke Janssen as Muriel
was
very scary,
made an effective villainess,
but nothing outstanding or exemplary.
If you're a fan of Jeremy Renner,
if the premise sounds interesting to you,
or you want to see uh... these really cool weaponry and there are some good
action scenes, some good fight scenes,
then I think it be OK.
Do you need to go see this in the movie theatre? No.
You can wait till Netflix or perhaps rent it.
I'm going to get this film
a C-plus because i did think it was better than average
but it certainly did not justify a B.
And I didn't feel my time was wasted.
I thought it was a pleasant way
to spend an afternoon.
