for anything that may come up while you're living independently.
This includes signing a lease, dealing with landlords, roommate conflicts, and any other questions you may have.
Kitchener-Waterloo has a surplus of housing.
Take your time and check out several places first before you sign a lease.
We recommend checking out four to five places.
You will find there are tons of available listings now and there will be even more in the coming months.
It's worth taking the time to find the right FIT!
The first step to officially living off campus is a lease.
A lease is a binding contract between you and the landlord that outlines the amount of time, the amount of rent,
- and other conditions listed that you will have to abide by.
While the lease is a binding contract, you can make alterations to it as long as you and the landlord agree.
But remember, you are responsible for the lease once you sign it.
Can't understand all the legal talk?
Bring the lease into the Off-Campus Housing Office where we would be happy to look it over for you.
Going on a co-op? Going home for the summer?
No problem. Just find a subletter.
Once you find a suitable subletter, go on to the Off-Campus Housing website
- where you can find an agreement that you and your subletter can sign.
But remember, you are responsible for the terms outlined in the original lease and to your landlord.
Now that you know the basics of trying to find a place to live off campus, take your time. Don't rush.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask the Off-Campus Housing Office.
We'll be more than happy to help.
