Sica means "Evil". There are even tales of "little people" living in the densely wooded
areas along Trail of the Spirits. Spellings and names of places like Sica Hollow State
Park South Dakota often get misinterpreted throughout history. Many pronounce and spell
Sica Hollow differently. The landmark erected in 1967 spells Sica Hollow State Park South
Dakota as Sieche (See-Che) Hollow and most of the non native people around the area pronounce
it that way as well. The Nicollet Tower further to the East also spells it as Sieche Hollow
on a legend mapping out the area.

Hiking the Trail of the Spirits at Sica Hollow State Park South Dakota I found nothing out
of the ordinary. Just lush greenery, lots of rippling streams in areas you couldn't
directly see, but could definitely hear. Once you got closer, you could peer through the
brush and see where the streams were flowing. I found nothing but beauty at Sica Hollow
State Park South Dakota.

Due to the deepness of the ravines there wasn't much air circulation. At times you could hear
the wind blowing yet there was only stillness. I believe due to the depths, and the deeply
wooded area of Sica Hollow State Park South Dakota that it was a safe haven from the wind
and bad weather we get in the winters. Also the stillness felt in the ravines lead to
a sort of eerie feeling. There were no birds or critters heard, which also could lead to
the rumors of the area being haunted.
