the MPS clinical risk self assessment is a tool that will help you identify risks
in your practice providing you with practical solutions to reduce these risks
ultimately this will help to improve patients' and staff safety be reducing your exposure to complaints
and ensuring you comply with government and national standards
For those practices in England a CRSA will help you prepare for Care Quality Commission registration.
MPS is committed to patient safety and one of our aims is to assist our members
through education and risk management to help reduce harm to patients. So what's involved?
Well firstly it is important to highlight that a CRSA is not an inspection.
We are not here to criticise you
We are here to support you, identifying positive aspects of service as well as aspects that could be improved.
the whole CRSA process
is centred around a one day visit to your practice.
Before we do this
we need to identify the culture of the practice in relation to patient safety
we do this by asking all staff at the practice to complete a staff survey
one of our facilitators will then contact you to arrange the day
all MPS risk assessment facilitators are experienced healthcare professionals
who've been to extensive training
and have a passion for education and risk management
we understand the demands of GP practices therefore the CRSA visit is flexible
and tailored to fit in with the practice work load
You don't have to close for the day we can work around you
the one day visit will include confidential discussions with key members of staff
and a multi disciplinary risk management workshop
The purpose of the confidential discussions is to get in understanding of the systems
and processes you have in place.
topics discussed may include prescribing, result handling, confidentiality, communication, chaperone
record keeping ext. The multidisciplinary risk management workshop will bring together
the team and highlight the importance of risk management and get the team thinking about
how they can assist in the reduction of risk
it's not imperative for all team members to attend the workshop but the more team members
available, the greater the value to your practice as all staff, doctors, nurses,
receptionists, have a role to play in Risk Management
Ideally the risk management workshop should last approximately three hours, however
some practices may find it difficult to find the time to help the workshop
if this is the case we can be extremely flexible and fit the program to the needs of the practice
if you have an hour to spare-
that's fine work around you.
the workshop is
interactive and fun with group discussion and practical exercises. We find the workshop
is also great for team building. Throughout the process all staff are encouraged to talk
freely and openly
After the visit you'll be provided with a comprehensive report detailing all our findings.
This will include a suggested action plan
and recommendations for further information to help you reduce your exposure to risk.
You will also be provided with the results of the staff survey on patient safety.
If you have any questions before, during or after the process our CRSA administrators
are here to help you so please don't hesitate to get in touch.
This really is a supportive process, we are here to help you
and your practice.
