I’m Jon from Barber Town, St Johns, Worcester and this is Lewis and on Lewis today we’ll be doing some artwork and some patterns on the one side of his hair.
So let’s get started.
First of all I’m going to put a grade two on my clippers and remove some hair.
First of all I’m going to put a grade two on my clippers and remove some hair.
I’m just taking away the hair where I’m going to do the design
and I’m going to come down the back.
Now we pick up a very small pair of clippers with a very fine blade because now we’ve put a number two on there it’s almost like a blank canvas we can
start to do a bit of artwork on there.
We’re just using the edge of the clipper
with a very faint outline in his hair, I’m just putting a line,
with a small blade you get a lot more control. I’m just checking I’m pressing onto the skin.
As you can see already we’re just starting to create a bit of shape there at the front.
Now I’m going back onto my clippers with a very fine blade.
Just slowly moving across the hair to create the shape that we require.
Just gently taking the hair away.
And then we move back onto the detailers and we just gently go over, just using the very corner of the blade just to cut off the hair away.
On fairer hair when you do the artwork you do have to make your lines a bit more chunky so they stand out.
We move back onto the clippers with the very small blade and we just keep chipping away at the hair until we get the desired pattern that we’re after.
It’s all done by freehand so no two are ever the same.
Now as we’re two thirds of the way through we’re starting to run out of space and we just pop a few little designs down towards the nape of the neck just to carry the theme.
We go back onto the detailer clipper with the close blade.
Another good tip when you’re doing artwork on the hair is always hold the clipper head very close to the ends of your fingers as if you’re writing with a pencil, you’ve
got far more control.
Now we’re just going over the top of a couple of the lines just finishing touches.
Now we’re going to back onto the bigger clipper, if you remember we put a number two on to start with, we’re now going down to a number one.
We’re just going to do a little bit of shaving which is where just certain parts of the pattern you just take away and it gives a bit more of like a 3D effect.
Just get rid of some of the hair
and that side is done so we’re just going to move onto the other side now.
Back on the number two
we’re going just pull in the skin so it’s nice and tight.
Now move back onto the detailer
and we’re just going to create a new little hairline
and we’re just coming around the ear also.
We just move the fringe out of the way there and we just take away those loose hairs there.
Now we can move onto the top water spray.
I’m just going to damp all of his hair down
and then we’re just going to go for a shorter choppy look on the top.
So we’re going to start at the front and work our way back leaving it slightly longer at the front and shorter on the top towards the crown.
Always keeping the hair nice and tight in your fingers.
Now we’re going to be using the technique called scissor over comb just to help blend all this in.
So scissoring a nice section of hair and just working your way down, just slowly just blending that hair into the hair that you’ve cut with the clippers.
And now that’s all nicely just blended in there.
So we’re now just going to repeat the process on the other side.
Now to the clipper comb which is big and flexible. So we just clip away at any little corners of hair that are left
just working our way all the way down towards the nape.
And we repeat the process on this side. We’re just taking away the corners; you’ve already gone over with your scissor and your comb so
we’ve taken most of the hair away.
You’re just checking over the work now.
So we’re now just going to snip a little bit of the front
and we’re just picking the hair up and putting a very small layer in there.
And that we turn Lewis around,
to chop into a little bit to put a little texture.
to chop into a little bit to put a little texture.
Right we just clear some of the hair away.
I’m just going to be picking Lewis’ hair up and just drying it at the roots for a bit of lift.
And to style Lewis’ hair we’re going to be styling it dry.
The product break it down between the palms of your hand and just gently coat the hair, always working forwards to begin with and down towards the back of the nape
with any product that’s left and coming from the other direction.
Because the hair is dry and doesn’t retain any water it will stand up all day long with the right product.
And then you have a Mohawk style with a pattern on the side.
