My name is Waylon Munch. I am a Senior-to-be at U of M, Duluth. I'm studying Civil Engineering with a structural focus.
I was one of a group of three that came down to visit and assist with the MAST Lab project that we have going on this week.
So far, we've just been preparing for the test that's about to happen next week. Mostly with calibrating and setting up all the sensors. We have tension sensors and strain gauges.
About ninety of them across this whole structure behind me. It's such an intricate process to make sure everything lines up perfectly before we run this test. Thousands of dollars are being poured into one single test.
We need to make sure that everything is lined up and exactly the way we need it so that we have minimal error.
Really I was drawn to the idea of building a large scale tangible objext that will withstand the test of time and be around for a long time.
Not something that'll be outdated in two years. I really wanted to be part of infrastructure and moving forward.
