Hello! My name is Melissa Schenk and on behalf of Expert Village, today we're talking about
some basic tips on how to play the game Pictionary. So in this clip now, let's get right into
learning how to play the game. In order to play the game, we must first talk about the
category cards. You'll notice that the category cards are basically explaining the colored
squares on the board. There are 5 different types of categories. On the board you'll notice
5 different colors. There's all play, which is orange. That means everyone will get to
play. We'll discuss that in an upcoming clip. Green is the difficult category. The purple
stands for action. Yellow stands for a person, place, or animal. And finally, the blue is
an object. These are the different categories that you'll be drawing. Now, everyone starts
on the all play category at the begining on the orange square. Now, the starting drawer
selects a word card from the front of the deck and has 5 seconds to examine the word
to be played. The timer is then going to be turned on, so you'll flip your timer. The
pictureist will begin sketching clues for the team. The drawer can't use verbal or physical
communication to the teammates during the round. Sketching and guessing will continue
until the word is identified or that timer is up. If the guess is correct, the team continues
by playing or rolling the dice. Then you'll advace of course the number of squares indicated
and you'll select and a new card and a new drawer. Now, any time or any number of markers
may occupy on the same square, but the pictureist position rotates everytime a team has to sketch.
If a word isn't identified in the time limit on the marker that you see, the dice is passed
to the left. The team recieving the die will begin it's turn by pulling a new card from
the deck not rolling the die. Now, the word corresponding to the square in which the marker
lies is the word in play. Again, as we discussed in our category cards. The only time that
you roll the die is to advance the marker, your marker, when a word is identified within
that one minute time limit or a team is first to identify the word in any all play situation.
We'll discuss all play coming up in a future clip. A team must occupy a square as long
as it does not identify the given word that is being drawn. Now that you know how to play
the game, let's talk about the all play category. That's coming up in our next clip.
