One of the career highlights for me would obviously be meeting my wife at Telstra.
Had a great opportunity to work with her as... she was a customer, so I got to meet her through work.
Another highlight would be to work in all the different departments of Telstra,
through wholesale, retail, and service delivery.
The career opportunities I've had are unbelievable.
Another highlight would be the opportunity to transfer to a different state, moving from Sydney to Brisbane for a better lifestyle.
The biggest reservation I had when I first started was thinking that all you did at Telstra was pick up a phone and answer calls.
That was alleviated by the first day I walked into the office.
I realised it was a lot more complicated, a lot more intricate.
The managers I had were very helpful, managers that gave me the opportunity, through training and development,
to actually go places, within the area, within the business and within Telstra.
Started off as a Data Consultant. After that, I was given the opportunity to train a data team,
to become a trainer for the data area wholesale. That was pretty interesting.
I got the opportunity then to work in the wholesale business, DSL, ADSL,
transferred over into the retail area, now work in the inbound team.
Because you make the progression from being a little baby in the pool, to a consultant, then a senior consultant,
and I'm now considered one of the senior consultants or one of the senior coaches,
and now I'm into a succession plan or a succession path for a Data SME.
Telstra's given me the opportunity to connect with my Indigenous heritage
via meeting the local Indigenous employees,
building a network with the local Indigenous employees,
and it's also given me the opportunity to volunteer at the Murray Rugby League Carnival
to connect with the wider Murray community.
Got to hand out a lot of merchandise, and it was a very fun day.
You feel like an important part of the Telstra community,
because you realise that you're only a small cog in a part of the big Telstra machine.
You get to work with a lot of different areas to deliver a product.
To provide a customer a service, you have to work with sales, all the way through to network construction guys.
and if you don't come together as a team, then that service doesn't get provided.
