Hi, I’m Katie with Galco TV Tech Tips. AC rated drives can accommodate variable torque
loads and constant torque loads. Variable torque loads generally require a reduced torque
on start up and increasing torque as speed increases. Some of the applications that may
need variable torque would be centrifugal pumps, fans and blowers. Constant torque loads,
as the name implies, requires a constant torque throughout the speed range. A good example
of constant torque loads would be a conveyor belt, where the torque will remain the same
with the load. With constant torque, motors tend to draw high current at low speeds when
compared to variable torque applications. To find out more about drives, check out our
other videos on Galco TV.
