Today we have the opportunity to witness firsthand
what it’s like to be an athlete, a coach or one of
the staff that make the AIS such a great institution.
It’s my great pleasure to officially open
the Australian Institute of Sport Open Day and
encourage you all to make the most of the facilities
around you, be inspired, encourage your kids
and most of all have fun.
We’ve just been into the residences hall which
is something that you’d never ever get to
see and it was really interesting.
Sports science I think was the best.
It gave you more of an insight into how the athletes,
what they do, what they have to do.
You just don’t realise the amount of time and effort
and strain on their bodies.

It was great and the kids loved it.
The indoor running track, the 100 metre running track
was good for a couple of runs, especially the
sports science place, that was fairly good too.
We’re from interstate so it’s kind of nice to be
able to come here and be able to look at the whole place.
We’ve been to different aquatic centres all
around Australia and this is by far the best,
as good as it gets. It’s really good.
It has been a fantastic turnout today and
certainly I think we’d be interested to open
the doors more frequently. What that would
look like, I’m not sure but we’ve had a
terrific turnout from the Canberra public so
I think it’s been a real success.
