Well – I’m chairman of the Shropshire Business Board.
The Business Board was set up in June of last year,
we completed the business plan by November
and then we’ve set up specific working groups to advance the implementation of that strategy.
We have clear objectives and I’m most encouraged by the co-operation I’ve had from the other ambassadors.
I spend a lot of time dealing with companies involved in environmental technologies,
involved with the group but that group also then feeds into the business board
which is represented by all sorts of business people.
I fit in and bridge the gap between the environmental side
and the wider business issues that are carrying on in Shropshire.
What I’ve been particularly pleased about, not being a politician myself,
is the willingness of the officers of the Council to be adaptable,
to work alongside the ambassadors by coming up with creative solutions.
I suppose previously perhaps I’ve always seen Council officers as people that work by fixed rules.
We’re all in this together and we’re trying to make the County as successful as we possibly can.
So having good relationships with the officers is phenomenally important
and I’ve been really impressed by the way they’ve bought into the idea of the ambassadors.
