Hello, and welcome to this instructional screencast on the Curator's Workbench. This is Jennifer
Martin from the Carolina Digital Repository.
In this screencast, I will show you how to work with individual MODS records for digital
objects.
This tool is mostly useful for single-object or small accessions where a delimiter-separated
values listing of metadata is not available.
It can also be used to assign folder-specific metadata within a collection.
To access the tool, right-click on the object to which you want to add metadata, and select
Metadata>Create MODS Description.
To add top level elements, right-click on the node and select from the list under
"New Child Element".
To add sub-elements, right-click on the parent element and select from the list under "New
Child Element".
The schema will not allow you to add multiple identical elements; to repeat an element,
add the values to the first element and then add the second element.
To add attributes, select the element you want to add to, and enter the attribute values
in the appropriate fields in the properties pane.
To add a value to an element, select the element and enter the value in the "Text" field in
the properties pane.
To remove an element, delete it.
When you are done editing the description, save it.
To edit an existing individual MODS record, right click on the object the record is associated
with and select Metadata>Edit MODS Description.
You edit using the same processes you used when creating the record.
If you wish to remove an individual MODS record from an object, right-click the object and
select Metadata>Delete MODS Description.
Note that once a MODS record is deleted, it is not recoverable.
And that's the basics for working with individual MODS records in the Workbench.
