Peace activist awarded Sweden’s Anna Lindh prize. Seventy-year-young Palestinian Ms.
Jean Zaru, has been bestowed with this year’s peace prize awarded by the Anna Lindh Memorial
Fund. The prize goes primarily to women and young people, and in the case of Ms. Zaru
commended what it called her “tireless work … to build up a true peace culture and
bring attention to all people's right to honorable and fair lives.” Ms. Zaru is a Christian
Palestinian and a Quaker who teaches religion and ethics at a school in Ramallah. She is
also the author of several books that articulate her religious motivation on the path towards
peace and justice.
