Well here we are folks, hello and welcome back to the bellicose nation.
Today we re going to get into a hot topic because I was having a conversation with a
lady a few days ago, she is convinced that the prison systems are full of innocent people
who's only crime is smoking a little weed and being Black. So I wondered if this is
true, So let's get into this and see.
I think we are all well aware of the surge in the prison population that kinda started
a few decades ago and when you look at the numbers you might assume that it is because
we are now locking people up for petty crimes but that growth is actually from something
else.
well in a nut shell, people are simply in prison longer, serving a larger portion of
their sentence due to the Three strikes and your out of here law as well as the mandatory
minimum laws and the longer you hold people the more the population grows, It's kinda
like the bathroom at a concert, why is the women's so much more full than the Mens?
Answer- Women are in the bathroom longer.
and when you look at the racial component , you see blacks are way more often locked
up.... but the reality is, they are way more likely to commit crime than any other group.
IN fact the numbers are so high, when you quote them, many people can't believe it.
Black men kill at like 8 to 10 times the rate as white men, even Black women kill more often
than white men do, it's really astounding and tragic.
Now I have debated a number of A.A on this issue, and they point to stats which show
Blacks are incarcerated more often and with longer sentences than whites....but I think
where their argument breaks down is that they assume, the average Black guy being charged
is the same as the average white.... and when the average outcome is different, they see
a huge racist conspiracy. When the truth is, it has much more to do with the huge difference
between the cultures and support system of blacks and whites.
So lets quickly look at why two people arrested for the same crime yet come from different
cultures or with different backgrounds and see how they
might have different outcomes.
ONe has a prior record the other much less likely to.
One has a job or is enrolled in college, the other, much less likely to.
ONe has a community leader, paster or boss, come and vouch that he is a good kid, the
other has no such support. One has a father who went into his savings
to pay for a lawyer, the other hardly knows his father.
Maybe One is married taking care of a wife and child, the other has no pressing motivation
to reform. And we could go on but you can see how the
difference isn't all based on race, it is two different cultures. Not stereotyping but
generalizing based on facts. -------
So for my friends out there who think it is all about race.....
Think about this- IF it were simply about race, why is it Blacks are convicted and serve
just as much time in San Francisco as they do in Atlanta.
Wouldn't we see a marked different conviction rate, from cities with large numbers of African
Americans working in the justice system, if racial bias were the problem? But often we
see the opposite.
Look, the reason we see so many blacks getting locked up is the collapse of The Black family.
And I am going to deal with that in other videos addressing who and what is to blame
and what can be done to repair the damage.
But lets get back to the prison surge and see what other effect it has had. Or if we
are just wasting tax dollars.
......Ok, so Now we are looking at the surge in prison population and we wonder..... what
would it hurt if we let these folks out earlier, like they used to.
Well......lets contrast incarceration rates ....with crime rates and see what we have.
Holly smokes! Look at that drop in Violent and property
crime. At the same time we began locking people up
longer , Crime dropped dramatically and this chart only deals with viol;net crime and property
crime, not smoking dope. SO this is the crime that touches people lives. We are talking
about ***, robbery and *** here boys and girls.
And this correlation is do to the fact that ......, the vast majority of crime is committed
by a fairly small percentage of the population. And, the more time he spends in jail, the
less time he he has on the street, the less time on the street, the fewer victims calling
911.
67% of people released are rearrested within 3 yrs.
The question we must ask our selves is: ... which do we want..... to pay to keep them locked
up .... or release them early and pay in our personal lives as we and our families are
much more likely to be victims of crime, The choice is yours, it is expensive either way.
If you have an opinion on this share it, if you have data I should see, feel free to message
me with it.
