Hi, my name is Nicole and today we’re going over the basics of wire wrapping and making
jewelry, and now I’m going to show you how to make a scroll. You can use about two inches
of wire. And you’ll want to cut a couple of pieces that are about the same size so
that your scrolls are about even. And you’ll need your chain nose. And basically what you
do is grip the wire and make a little loop just at the end, like so. And then take your
flat nose and loop around the loop that you’ve made. And these don’t have to be perfectly
tight. Just keep rotating it until you’re about halfway down the wire. On the other
side, you do it the opposite direction. So I’m going to turn the loop away from me,
like so.
And then, again, rotate the wire around the loop. And you can tighten it as much as you
like. So that’s a scroll, and what you want to do after you make the scroll is you’ll
need a mallet and a surface to flatten the scroll on. And you just want to hit it a couple
of times until the wire lengthens, basically. And that will just flatten the sides of the
scroll and you can use it as a link. Another good idea when you’re making scrolls is
to take steel wool and rub it against the grain of the silver to remove some of the
polish and it makes a nice effect if you’re using faceted or darker beads because it accents
them. And that’s how you make scrolls.
