How to Treat Baby Diarrhea. When your baby is ill and having gastrointestinal problems,
it can be scary. Take care of your sweet angel and make sure that a little diarrhea doesn't
turn into a big problem. You will need Diet evaluation Signs of infection Doctor Home
treatments Increased fluid consumption Frequent changes and diaper cream. Step 1. Evaluate
your child's diet. If your baby is breastfed or formula-fed, their diet is not likely to
be the problem. If your baby eats solids, suspect new foods or excessive fruit or juice
consumption. Pay particular attention to common allergens, such as wheat, dairy, nuts, eggs,
tomatoes, and citrus fruits. Step 2. Remove from your baby's diet any suspected allergens
or food your baby may have an intolerance for. Step 3. Check to see if your baby has
an illness by looking for signs of a possible viral or bacterial infection. Make an appointment
to see your doctor and begin home treatments if you suspect illness. Step 4. Increase your
baby's fluid intake. Feed them extra breast milk, formula, water, or a children's electrolyte
drink. Babies dehydrate easily. If your child can't keep anything down, call your doctor
immediately. Step 5. Feed your baby as normal, if they will eat. A healthy diet will help
to restore lost nutrients in their body. You may also consider the BRAT diet to ease an
upset tummy. Feed your child bananas, rice, apples, and toast until the diarrhea subsides.
Step 6. Have your child eat yogurt if you do not suspect a dairy allergy. The live cultures
will help to balance their intestinal tract. Step 7. Change your baby's diaper frequently
and slather on diaper cream to prevent rashes. Step 8. Watch for any change in behavior,
attitude, urination frequency, or vomiting. In a few days, your little one should be good
as new. Did you know Marion Donovan invented the disposable diaper, which was patented
in 1951.
