VINCENZO: My name's Vincenzo.
I live in Ozone Park, Queens, New York.
This is my home.
I live with my parents.
I mean, of course I love it.
Who doesn't love their parents?
I love my mother and father.
But keep myself downstairs, secluded [INAUDIBLE], and it's
a big mess down there.
My name's Vincenzo Argento, I'm 22 years old, and I still
live with my mom.
Ma, it's a mess down there.
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: What do you want me to do?
VINCENZO: We have one option.
Get me a sexy maid--
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: I don't think so.
VINCENZO: Or two, I'm going to bring in Tracy Metro.
She's going to design the whole place for us.
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: Fine.
TRACY METRO: Wow!
There's a lot of stuff.
So you sleep there.
You hang there.
You work there.
VINCENZO: I work there.
TRACY METRO: So for me to really get a sense of what I
can do in here, I need two things to happen.
Number one is to get you out of here.
Number two is to--
VINCENZO: Kicking me out of my own place.
TRACY METRO: --*** out of here.
Exactly.
And here's what I'm going to say.
You're on the wrong side of the velvet rope.
VINCENZO: Oh, boy.
TRACY METRO: You're not allowed in
for the next 24 hours.
Bye-bye.
Bye-bye.
VINCENZO: Oh, boy.
Got blacklisted.
We talked about a lot of things that I
don't like down there.
Then we spoke about the things that I hope she can do for me.
It'd be cool if I have all that in one place.
TRACY METRO: So I'm hoping that what this does is it
gives him some clarity.
He's got his siblings' stuff out of the room.
It's no longer the storage room with the ironing board.
So I'm hoping it's a real good launching pad.
I do think there is a way to get a nice division.
So what I've done is put the bed in that
former office nook.
And then I got a shoji screen, so it's separate from the rest
of the space.
So he actually has the proper bedroom space, and then a
hangout/office space.
VINCENZO: When I'm down there, it's most the time music.
Anything-- whether it's listening to music or
producing music, just hanging out.
There's two reasons why my boys come by.
A, Mama's cooking.
B, for the music.
TRACY METRO: I wanted to texturize the wall, but I
didn't want to do it with paint, 'cause I thought, oh my
god, that could look so '80s.
And I said, newspapers!
How about this?
I'll stick, you glue.
MALE SPEAKER: Yeah.
TRACY METRO: That cool?
MALE SPEAKER: Cool.
VINCENZO: I want to know what is going on right now.
Cases on top of cases full of newspapers.
They're ripping them up, folding then, kicking me out
of my own house.
I have no idea what's going on with that.
TRACY METRO: I'll create the visual image of a taller
ceiling, and yet I'll have texture.
You can tell the time at which it was done.
So I think in like 10 years this'll feel really cool.
What I'm really doing for Vincenzo is giving him three
definitive spaces.
I'm giving him a workspace, a hangout space,
then a bedroom space.
VINCENZO: If the space was more to my liking and had what
I wanted, I would definitely be able to focus
more and do my work.
TRACY METRO: While Mama Argento doesn't really want
the ladies downstairs, I think it's really going to be a cool
pad for all of Vincenzo's pals.
One of my favorite things about making over people's
homes is finding all the change left in the couch.
Let's find out how much extra money Vincenzo Argento would
have if he had not lost money beneath the cushions.
Two, four, six.
I need four cents, and I will have found a dollar.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
TRACY METRO: Vincenzo and Mama?
Come on down.
Welcome to your modern speakeasy.
VINCENZO: What?
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: Oh my god!
TRACY METRO: Mama, come here, come here.
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: Oh my god.
TRACY METRO: I know you want to run around, but stand here.
Drink it in for a second.
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: Holy crap!
TRACY METRO: So you told me three things you wanted.
You wanted to work, you wanted to hang, you wanted to sleep--
in that order.
So what I wanted to do was I wanted to give you something
where it wasn't like, eh, you're shoved in the basement.
I wanted to give you something where it was like, you had to
know the code to get down in here.
So you got your mission control right here.
You got your tunes to work out.
You got your computer.
VINCENZO: Now that my desk is in a different
corner, more space.
I don't have to stare at my bed anymore.
TRACY METRO: Then, I loved the furniture that you had.
And I didn't want to get rid of it and just give you
brand-new furniture.
It needed to be cleaned so we washed it.
I got you a couple splashy, fun, bright pillows.
Then I brought in the bar right here.
I found a bunch of New York Times.
I shredded them, and then hung them up with wallpaper paste.
VINCENZO: That's awesome.
The newspaper wall, that's great.
Not going to read it, but I'll definitely keep it.
TRACY METRO: Then back there, I got you a queen bed.
The man who was living on a twin now has a queen.
VINCENZO: I have a separation wall.
This is awesome.
This is great. a little more privacy, more space.
Bed's big.
I can fit on it now.
TRACY METRO: To the Argentos and their modern speakeasy.
VINCENZO: Cheers.
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: Cheers.
VINCENZO: Pretty much, what I wanted was something for my
own, my own space.
Low-key.
And that's what I got.
When you saw my mom, it looked like she was psyched.
She loved the place.
She can't wait for me to move out.
But reality--
she would die if I left.
Oh boy!
VINCENZO'S MOTHER: Oh my god!
Did he break it?
