Larry Wheeler: I’m Larry Wheeler, director of the North Carolina Museum of Art, located
in Raleigh, North Carolina. The North Carolina Museum of Art is not your typical art museum,
it’s a lively place. It’s a building that blends art and nature seamlessly into the
experience of the visitor. It spills natural light over every part of the experience of
looking at art and also visually connects you to the beautiful gardens in the outdoors.
We have some 40 new galleries, 130,000 square feet for the exhibition of the permanent collection.
It spans from Egypt through Greece and Rome, through European history through American
paintings. African art, Pre-Columbian art, you name it we’ve got it here. Most people
are coming to the museum these days to see the great new Rodin collection. We have the
largest collection of Rodin in the southern United States. Not only do we have great art
and great contemporary art which will surprise you but great new commissions by living artist
on the grounds, a park where you can explore environmental art. You will encounter performance;
you can have a great meal and just hang out in a beautiful space. When you come to the
museum expect absolutely free admission to the permanent collections and the great park.
