The University of Canberra celebrated its 42nd birthday with a packed Stoneweek. Students
celebrated the event on the concourse, as well as the university hosting concerts, events
and important guests. The week started early Monday with a visit
from Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Health Minister Nicola Roxon.
On Wednesday Tertiary Education Minister Chris Evans visited the university for the first
time since taking on the new role. Thursday saw celebrations with the launch
of the University’s new Reconciliation Action Plan.
The plan sets out steps the university will take to build positive relationships and close
the 17-year life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
On Friday Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, Chief of the Defence Force, spoke at the university
as part of the National Security Lecture series. And on Saturday thousands of people poured
into campus for the University’s own music festival, Stonefest.
