I”m at the Mahara Plugin Page, and the plugin
that I’m going to download and install--to show you how easy this is--
is the Individual Learning Plan. Now I’ve not installed nor
configured this one before. I’m picking this one because
I have almost every other one installed in my system
my Mahara system. I clicked on the link
to open the Wiki page
about this particular plugin. And you’ll notice
there is a table of content block up here. And if I click on 2.
it will bring me down to the installation information.
There is a link here that will take me to github, where I can download
the plugin. It tells me in the description here,
that it should work with any Mahara 1.4x
installation (I’m actually running 1.5) and
it also tells me that I should download
unpack and copy the folder into the artefact
folder of my Mahara installation. So I will show you
how that looks. The first thing I’m going to do is go to github,
and download the latest version
at github there
is descriptions, there is the “read me” text,
and the download link, which I”m
going to use to download
So, let’s download this
I”m going to save
this file
and I should have a Mahara folder on here
Mahara project isn’t it, but I
for now, I”m going to save it to my desktop.
So, let’s go and
we’ll log into our Mahara site and we’ll install this
upload it, and then I’ll show you how to configure it.
For my Mahara site, I use
a cpanel in order to see
my files and to work with the files I have installed on
my server. You may not use a cpanel
I don’t know but nevertheless
you’ll get an idea of how
you might use your system. And so I’m going to
to go to my files that are my server
I’m going to open
current Mahara installation. I have a number of Mahara installations
I’ve archived. But I”m going to to go my current Mahara
installation and open up the files. You’ll see that I have
folders called “artefacts”. There’s “blocktypes”, “collections”
and if you remember, the description on where to install this
said “in the artefact file”. I’m going to open the artefact file
and in this file, I’m going to upload
the zipped file that I downloaded
from github. It should be
right here, and I’m going to
open that.
It tells me it’s complete. I’m going to go back to my files.
And there it is. I’m going to select it and unzip this.
And I’m going to put it in the artefact
folder. Extract the file. Close.
And now I should see the
folder in here.
now that it has extracted.
When I reloaded the page, you can see
the Individual Learning Master Plan right here.
I don’t need the zipped folder any more so I”m going to delete that.
And now I”m going to open up this Individual Learning Plan
Master folder. You’ll see that it contains
two other items. The ilps folder, which is the folder
that should be in the artefact folder
and the “read me” text. I’m going to move the
ilp folder
move that file
into the artefact
file.
So, it’s not here any more. The read me text
I can also read on the website if I want
I don’t really need to keep it.
It’s more about the installation
and I have a copy of it, so I’m going to go up one level
and you’ll see that I have
in here, the ilps folder
right here. And
the folder that once contained that and now only contains
the read me text, called the Individual Learning Plan Master.
I’m going to delete that folder.
So I know now that the folder is on
my server. The last thing that I have to do is
actually configure it in my Mahara instance.
Let’s go to the Mahara system administrator account.
And I will show you how that’s done.
I’ve logged into my Mahara site. I’m a site administrator
so I have this site administration tab.
which I’m going to click on.
Now, I’m going to click on the tab for “extensions”
and go to “plugin administration”
This is a list of all of the plugin
that I’ve had installed and
in this list of plugins, I’m going to find the one that I just uploaded
It will be in the column
labeled “plugin type: artefact” because that is where
, that’s where it was installed: in the artefact folder.
You’ll notice it’s down here at the bottom
labeled “not installed plugins”
I see “ilps” and next to that a link that says “install”
So, I’m going to click that link. And you’ll see that
it was successfully upgraded to version 1.0.1
Now, we can take a look and see how that actually
looks in use. Since it is an artefact
let’s go to our Mahara
homepage.
and content, which is
the artefacts. You’ll see it listed here as ilp
I’m going to click on that and you’ll see
I haven’t added one yet. So, now I can add one.
It’s as easy as that to install a plugin in Mahara. I mean honestly
if I can do it, you can do it. Thanks for your time and attention
to this video.
