Sunday morning in Ramallah. Simply a special celebration day rings the bells of the transfiguration church.
On the chruch's tower, next to the church's flag is the palestinian flag. And right behind the church, there is a mosque.
The christians in the city are predominantly greek orthodox, a respected minority in Ramallah.
The worship service is as always attended by people, among the faithful is, Muhib Abdullah, newly elected Fatah representative.
He is one of the five christian people represetatives in the dominated hamas parliment. He fears that hamas is now hostile to the christians.
On the contrary, the hamas politicians are actually trying to make an approach.
I would actually affirm that they only look for our political bases areas,
so that they will be recognized to the world community.
They want to show the world how tolerant they are to deal with the christians.
Every tenth citizen in Ramallah is christian, but they all feel Palestinians.
Since hundered of people live together peacefully, and a simple
argument will not let them escalate, assures us Muhib Abdullah.
I do not think that this will come to a clash of civilization. For a battle,
two different cultures must bump into eachother. Here in Palestine there is
only one culture. The christians distinguish themselves from muslims only by beliefes not by culture.
Back to Ramallah.
Ramallah is the only palestinian city in the west bank that has a night life.
Many fear that after the powerful takeover by Hamas, life will change
radically, maybe similar to Gaza.
Over there alchohol is stricly forbidden and a hotel with a beer bar will be burned down.
I am afraid from their political program, but they are not going to
accomplish to change us humans or change our thinking, our life, our tradion.
The whole ideology of hammas aimes to change society.
However, hammas sees Palestine as a religious country, as an Islamic state.
The liberal Palestinians can get a taste of the true face of Hammas online.
