500 Subscribers Video Response for Buschsani
Hello dear Bushcraft Friends.
For the 500 subscribers - video response for Buschsani I greet you from my little workshop.
I'm in the workshop because I want to show you a project.
Dear Marcus, I would like to congratulate you for your 500 subscribers.
You're just a fantastic guy with a great channel.
To know you personally means a lot to me and I hope we meet again.
You've made it to our mission to make bushcraft music.
The rules for this you have left wide open.
Because you know that my father is playing alphorn, you have already asked me if I could take a couple of Alphorn sounds.
To call my father now and take somme sounds from his Alphorn would be too easy.
That's why I've decided that to play Alphorn by myself.....in a duet with my father.
I will not play on any Alphorn,.....
...but I'm going to play on a self-built € 5 Roof Battens- Alphorn.
How exactly do I build such an Alphorn, I will show you now ...
For the construction of such an alphorn I use 4 roof battens with a length of 2.5 meter.
Better would be 3 meter battens but that would have no place in my workshop.
The battens have the usual size of 24 mm X 48 mm.
When buying, I have made sure that the roof battens are as straight as possible ...
... and that are only a few branches.
Two spacers are very useful for easy gluing
The larger one for the lower end has the mass 40mm X 40mm..
The smaller for the top end has the mass 15mm X 15mm
I'm going to draw the dimensions ....
...and then I glue the battens together.
One hour later ...
While the glue dries I will make the mouthpiece
For that I need hardwood.
This piece is hazelnut and with a diameter of about 32mm.
From this branch I will saw out a 10cm long, straight piece.
Now I drill a hole with a diameter of 4.5 mm in the middle of the piece of branch.
Because of the length of the mouthpiece, I have to drill from both sides.
With a 19mm countersink I will now drill a cone for the lips.
Now I'm going to grinding out this cone with sanpapier that a cup-shape arises
Later, I will still continue to grind ...
On the other side I will make a cone with different sized drills.
The transitions I will grinding out with a file.
The cone has finally a diameter of 13-14mm at the thick end.
The mouthpiece works ....
I'm going to grind the cone exactly ...
and then carve a square profile with a side length of 15 mm...
...so that the mouth-piece fits into the alphorn.
The Alphorns are ready now.
Because I want to play a duet with my father I have built two Alphorns.
For building a horn I need 4-5 hours.
On the floor you can see the shavings of one horn.
By the knots I had to take the angle grinder to help.
For the drawknife these spots were just too hard.
At the top end, I tied with string a locking ring,...
... so that the alphorn not splitting when I press in the mouthpiece.
So I can even play some tones with the alphorn, I still have to practice a few days....
...then I call my father.
