My name is Whitney Bennett and I’m from Henderson, KY.
I’m a Spring 2011 graduate with an Anthropology Degree and
a minor in Psychology and I am a 2011 Fulbright ETA recipient to Turkey.
I knew that I wanted to do something before going to graduate school
after I received my undergrad degree, when I began researching prospects
uh, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and I came across the Fulbright a lot of the
reason why is because we had so many winners last year and
I started talking to the honors department about it.
I got a little discouraged I thought, well, maybe I’m not the perfect student
that can’t get something like that and one of my
anthropology professors actually really encouraged me to give it a try,
there’s no sense in not trying to go for it.
If you don’t get it then you plan for the next step and if you do get it
then you have an awesome opportunity to go out of the country for a year
year and learn about a different culture.
My brother, my older brother and sister both did a lot of travelling.
My sister went to UofL and went to Japan and Spain and
lots of other countries and so as I was in high school seeing her
get these opportunities through the University of Louisville it encouraged me
to do well in school and to go after whatever it was that I wanted,
and if that was to travel and learn about other cultures
I felt that I could make it happen if I worked hard.
