Hello Everyone and Welcome to another episode of TrifDimi's Reviews.
In this Review, I am going to tell you my opinion about the 12th One Piece Movie,
which title is One Piece Film Z,
which came out on December 15th of 2012
and is the first movie, which just like the manga, take place in the New World
Let's discover why this movie is considered to be the best movie of the series so far!
The movie take place after the events in Fishman Island Arc and before the Punk Hazard Arc.
As Luffy and his crew continue their journey, they come across the formal Navy Admiral Zephyr,
also known as Z.
Z's goal in life is to eradicate every pirate of the face of the earth and crush their dreams to find the One Piece.
Without having any other option, Luffy decides to face Z,
since if he is not able to defeat him, he will not have any hope to become the Pirate King.
The focus of the movie is mainly on Z and the diabolical plan that he develop in order to kill all the pirates.
I like Z as a character and I believe that the fact that they are saying that he is the strongest opponent that Luffy has face so far is not wrong.
Since we saw that not only he is physically very strong, despite his age,
but he is very experienced, since we saw that he understood immediately that Luffy is the captain of the crew,
or when Luffy activated Gear Second, Z realized that Luffy increases the flow of his blood in order to become faster,
and he did all that just by looking.
I think that is logical to have so much experience,
since we see in the movie that he trained all the High Ranking Navy soldiers we have seen in the serie.
And that is just a part of him that I like.
Despite the fact that Z is the villain of the movie,
he gave me the impression of the character that someone would have as a mentor.
And we saw that in the movie, since his ex-students, despite the fact that he is now their enemy,
they kept calling him teacher out of respect, and in the end we saw them cring when Z died.
Another interesting part of Z is his plan.
He wanted to use the Dyne Rocks, rocks that they say can rival even the ancient weapons,
in order to destroy the 3 End Points and as a result the New World, the pirates and the One Piece
and thus the curtain for the Great Pirate Era would close.
His plan is so evil, since he is not just going to kill all the pirates but many innocent civilians as well
and that shows that despite the fact that Z hates pirates, he is acting like one of them.
Just the thought of his plan is scary and shows that he is a very strong character.
Also, his actions are explained when we find out about his past from Garp and Sengoku.
That from the start he was a very brave soldier and became a Navy Admiral at a very young age
and that he believed in the Justice of the Navy,
that his wife and son were killed by a pirate who hated him and later Z lost all his new students and his arm to another pirate
and that the reason that he lost fate in the Navy Justice is because the pirate who killed his students became one of the Seven War Lords of the Sea.
We also find out more information about Z from Aokiji, who makes his first appearance after the TimeSkip
and he makes a very good question that put many fans in thought.
"Pirates exist because the One Piece exist, or the One Piece exist because pirates exist?"
The biggest question of this series, what is One Piece?
And of course the final showdown between Luffy and Z was epic.
A fist fight is the best way for people with strong ideologies to fight.
And of course at the end where Z gives it everything he's got but in the end dies is very touching.
After 1 hour and 45 minutes of action and emotion, anyone can understand why this movie was so epic
and despite the fact that I liked it, I have some observations.
Personally I wanted to see much more of what we saw.
What I mean is, I wanted the movie to be at least 2 and a half hour long.
So, let's analyze the staff that I noticed and what else I would have included in the movie.
First of all, I believe that the Dyne Rocks will play an important role in the series,
since it is mentioned in the movie that they are as important as the ancient weapons.
And as we all know, in the series the 3 ancient weapons are some of the biggest mysteries of the series
and since the Dyne Rocks are as powerful as them, they must play an important role.
Also, the 3 End Points seems to play an important role in the series as well
and since Luffy's journey in the New World just began, it is safe to assume that the End Points are at the beginning of the New World.
Also, in the movie we saw Sunny burn.
The entire scene was impressive, since we have't seen anything like that to take place in the series
and that always bug me since their previous ship, the Going Merry, was always full of holes due to the cannon balls,
while Sunny is always unharmed.
That just shows what a fantastic job Franky did when he build it.
Another important fact is that we finaly saw the Navy Base G1, the new Navy HQ
and all the powerfull Vice-Admirals that we have seen so far.
Although, the Navy's reaction towards Z surprised me,
Z wants to destroy the entire New World and in order to counter him
the Navy sent one Admiral, six Vice-Admirals and a few soldiers.
You are kidding, right?!
In the Marineford Arc, when Whitebeard invaded the Navy HQ,
the Marines called 50 battleships, 100.000 Navy soldiers,
all the lieutenants, captains, comendors, commanders and Vice-Admirals from all over the world,
the three Admirals, the Fleet-Admirals and the 7 War Lords in order to fight him,
and what did Whitebeard wanted to do?
To save Ace, nothing more,
while Z wants to destroy the New World and that's all you send to counter him?
I wanted to call the 3 Admirals,
although, when the movie came out we didn't know who were the new Admirals in the manga,
but I don't think that was a problem,
after all we didn't see Akainu's face in the movie, so they could do something like that to the rest of them.
Also, it would be interesting if we saw the 7 War Lords of the Sea, after all we already knew 4 of them,
there were already rumours ever since episode 517 that Buggy would be one of them so it wouldn't be that much of a surprise,
when the movie came out, the manga had reached the point where Luffy defeated Ceaser, so we knew that Law was one of them,
and as for the 7th, they could present him the same way they presented Akainu.
It would be very interesting, especially if we saw Hancock to find Luffy and hug him.
I would like to see the scene and how the rest of his crew would have reacted.
Later on, when Z's lieutenants attacked Luffy and his crew,
I didn't find Binz to be an interesting character,
he was very irritated and his ability the Mosa Mosa was very stupid,
Ain on the other hand was an interesting character.
I liked her dedication towards Z and it was obvious that she wanted to be something more than just a simple follower to him.
Also, I found her Devil Fruit power interesting,
the fact that she could turn everything she touched 12 years younger and it was funny when she made Nami, Chopper and Robin younger,
although I didn't understand why Robin wasn't happy about it.
The strange thing was that she also touched Brook.
Since Brook is 90 years old and he has been a skeleton for 50 of these years, it wouldn't make any difference.
I think that it would have been more interesting if she touched him 5 times
and made him 60 years younger,
during the time that he had skin.
The movie would have been more interesting this way.
