First off, getting here took a really long time. And then I had a really long layover from San Francisco to Los Angeles, so my teammates actually just picked me up from San Francisco and drove me down to Anaheim.
But then I realized that driving down to Anaheim actually felt longer than it took for me to fly to America. So I pretty much lost an entire day just trying to get here.
This is my third time being at an overseas tournament. But I really don’t get that fresh, new feeling right now. I guess I’ve gotten used to it or something because of past experiences. Honestly, when I got to the team house, all I could think about was just getting some sleep.
Well, first off, I just kind of feel intimidated right now by all the players that are here. And it’s not just that I’m scared of the well known players. I’m actually more scared of the lesser known players and just the sheer number of players that are at this MLG.
So for example, rather than be scared of like three INnoVation caliber players, I am just more scared of the fact that there are like 50 players here who are like Proleague caliber.
As for who I think is going to win the MLG championship.... Well, I mean... I would like to be the champion if possible. But I’m currently in the losers’ bracket.
Even before StarCraft, I actually started off with Diablo II. I was only in elementary school at that time and Diablo was a 19+ age restricted game, but I still played it (laughs).
And then when I was around fifth grade, I started seeing pro gamers on television. As I kept on watching these pro gamers, I was really inspired by the fighting spirit in their eyes, and I had always liked gaming, so I kind of grasped that dream of wanting to become a pro gamer around that age.
And then when I was around my last year of middle school, that’s when I decided to pursue gaming as a career.
So, when I first started off with gaming, I just kind of slowly started climbing the ranks on ladder. And i guess I caught the eyes of several teams because of that.
Originally, I was planning on joining New Star HoSeo. And then a little later, I got an offer from BoxeR to join SlayerS. But here’s the thing, Even after the offer to join SlayerS, I was still considering just joining NSH.
But there was this lingering impact that made me re-think my decision. It was as if something inside me was telling me that “SlayerS doesn’t need you. You need SlayerS.” So I ended up joining SlayerS because of this strong feeling.
And also, SlayerS was a really special and well going team at that time. I also got to spend time with a famous celebrity like SlayerS_Jessica. Overall, my time at SlayerS was just really special for me.
In Korean, the show YuGiOh is not actually called YuGiOh. It’s called YuHeeWang. And *** stands for “king”. And there were a lot of players with “king” in their name.
Now to be honest, it’s not I necessarily love the show or anything. I just think I chose the name YugiOh because I wanted to have some kind of “king” representation in my name.
Honestly right now, I kind of regret picking this name. I mean, YuGiOh itself is a cartoon after all. It’s just like... People who are fans of the show like my name and how I play.
Actually, I recently considered changing my ID. But of course, if I did decide to change my ID, I would want to do something special with my name. So I would probably do some sort of ceremony with like a YuGiOh card involved. So I hope people will be anticipating for that.
