The Locker in D2L provides a secure place to save class work. This is handy if you are working on something for class but aren’t yet ready to hand
it in. In short, the locker is your own personal storage area within D2L that you can use to store a variety of files.
Once in D2L the locker can be accessed from the either the Resources Dropdown when you first log into D2L or from the Materials dropdown once you
are inside a course. Before we go any further there are a couple of limitations with the locker: 1st you only have 5.12mb of total storage so the
files you place in the locker can’t be very large. Second, you can’t upload files with the extenstions .asp, .bat, .config, .dll, and .exe.
Uploading a file is simple. After clicking the Upload Files button add a description if necessary and click the browse button to find the file on your
computer. Once a file is selected click Save and the file will be uploaded to the locker. The easiest way to download a single file is to
simply click on the name of it, which will prompt you to open or save. If you wanted to make changes to a file housed in the locker you will need
to download the file, make the necessary changes, save it and then re-upload the file.
Of course you can create folders to place your files in if desired. Simply click the New Folder button, give your folder a name and click Create.
Moving a file into a folder is as easy as selecting it, clicking the move option, clicking the appropriate folder and then choosing Move.
The New File Option allows you to create an HTML file directly in your locker. This might be handy if you simply want to take a few notes or don’t have a
word processing application handy. After clicking the New File button, enter the file name, and enter your file contents into the edit
contents text field. You do not need to add a description, however you can if desired. Once you are finished click the Create button.
To delete files and folders select the file/folder you wish to delete. Then click delete.
Remember, the MSUM helpdesk is available and happy to assist faculty, staff and students who have questions regarding technology or are
experiencing computer issues.
