Hi! This is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, we will be laying out
the top and the bottom. Going back to our drawing, our bookshelf width is 22 so we know
that our top needs to be approximately 22 inches by 10 inches deep. If we take a little
bit closer look at what that is going to look like, our top piece is actually going to be
going in between our side pieces. Our side pieces are each 3/4 of an inch so we need
to add those together and subtract 1 1/2 inches from 22. So our top will be 20 1/2 inches
by 10. However, we need to subtract 3/4 of an inch off that front edge so that we can
put out trim on which gives us an overall measurement of 20 1/2 by 9 3/4. Our bottom
piece will also go between our two sides so that is going to be our exact same measurement
as our top piece. Now rather than putting on a little piece of trim, we are going to
be putting on this kick plate but that kick plate is also going to be 3/4 of an inch.
So for both our top and bottom pieces my measurements are 20 1/2 by 9 1/4.
