Hey '16! I'm Sarah one of your FTCs! And throughout this entire summer you've heard a lot from us, either on the phone through email
or as Approaching Stanford on the Class of '16 Facebook group.
But now we want to hear from you
so we put together a video
project and are asking you to submit videos answering the question: What is NSO?
What do you know about it? What do you think it is?
And what are you hoping to get out of your first week on The Farm?
To give you an idea of what we're looking for, I asked some
of the FTCs to go back a few years
to the summer before they moved onto campus.
Here's what they had to say.
I mean I honestly have no idea what to expect for NSO. All I know is that I just cannot wait to move in.
Oh my god. What is NSO going to be like?
It's going to be awesome! It"s going to be all the best people from all the best places and they're all going to meet up in one place and we're all going to hang out and I'm going to have a million new friends.
NSO. I'm kind of scared actually.
I mean, there is so much stuff there on offer, I've heard that California is one of the best places in
the world to live, breathe, exist, and go to college, why not? I really can't wait to get to Stanford.
I just, I just cannot wait to start this new adventure. And I'm so excited to get to campus. Anxious but excited.
It's just going to be the best thing ever.
I'm kind of nervous though, because I'm going to be
on the diving team diving team and as much as I love my team here,
I'm so ready for this new experience.
So for me, NSO
will be the first time that I'm away from home. It's going
to be weird not having Mom around to cook me all
my meals
and do my laundry.
I'm not really sure I'm going to fit in. It's going to take
me awhile to meet new people and get to know people and
I'm really
close with my friends and my family
back home
and I hope that
by the end of NSO
I can see those relationships developing with new people, you know.
It's going to be weird being in a new place. There's so much in office, so many lectures,
so many programs, so much to see, so much to do, so many names to
forget. I really just want to enroll
in everything that Stanford has
to offer. I don't know how I'm going to figure out
how to schedule my classes with practice
and still find time to sleep
and
meet friends and get involved with
everything on campus, so
So hopefully somebody can sit me down and help me figure out that.
I really can't wait to talk to people at Stanford, such as
my Academic Advisor
and ask them
how to proceed
and what courses should I take if I've got no clue what I want to do.
I also cannot wait to
finally move into my dorm. I have yet to meet anyone from Otero,
so I've already joined the Facebook group. I opened my email
from Housing and I had never heard of
the Facebook group. I opened my email from Housing and I had never heard of Paloma
before or Florence Moore, but after doing some
serious Googling and looking on Stanford
Searchable Maps, I now know where
it's located on campus so I can't wait.
So who's ever in Arroyo, shout out to you guys, 'cause I'll be there. I'll see you on move in day.
And I've already talked to some people and I can't wait to meet everyone else at my first dorm meeting!
It's going to be a big transition for me
and I just hope that
I settle in. I want to
To finally get
across the Atlantic
and seeing all your fantastic
sights and sounds,
Make connections,
Get back to school. As nerdy as that sounds, I just want to
start taking classes,
Learn how to lock my bike
to the weird stands and Live with a roomie and figure out where to put all my books
and shoes, 'cause that's going to be...
I want to open myself up to
everything that Stanford has to offer, because to me
that's what NSO is. It's a taste of the most amazing four years that are on their way.
I hope you enjoyed that because I know we had a lot of fun filming it.
Now it's your turn. Send us your footage
explaining what you think NSO is and here's how.
Step One: Record a Video. Video Quality on submission is not
an issue. We suggest using a video camera and tripod if you
have access to them.
If not, a video taken on a webcam or on an iPhone is
acceptable. The submission should be no longer than two
minutes and needs to be in a .mov, .mp4, or .mpg video
format.
We're asking for raw footage that is unedited and has no
transitions, titles, or effects, and that you title your
submission firstname_lastname_ 2016.
Step Two: Submitting your Video.
There are two ways that you can submit your video.
Now that Stanford has partnered with box.com, you can upload
your video to the link below, and when asked to log in, use
your SUID and password or you can upload your files to
YouTube as an unlisted video and email us the link at
stanfordNSO2012@gmail.com with the subject line NSO 2012
Video Submission.
We can't wait to hear from you!
