My name is Mike Lee and
this is my wife Cindy.
On May the 2nd, 2010,
our lives washed away.
We had a flood
come through here
from the Harpeth River.
This was our front walkway.
It’s what I used to put
their Christmas presents in.
More or less washed away
everything we had.
We had a two car
garage right here.
The shirts on our back
and our vehicles
is all we were able
to get out with.
Come in to a bedroom here,
the first bedroom.
The water started rising,
just a matter of time,
we had to get out just
as quick as we could.
If it had been during
the middle of the night,
we'd have been
washed away with it.
We found some of our house,
or parts of our house,
in different places
down river about
a mile and a half.
They were broken up
so bad that if I had
not known what it was
I would had definitely
not even been able
to recognize it.
But otherwise it was destroyed.
If FEMA can’t help us
I don’t know
what were going to do.
Have a seat and we're
going to try and make it better.
We went to one hundred oaks
where FEMA was set up.
Got the paperwork
started with them.
We went to a different station
and talked to the people
at the SBA.
Got our information
started with the SBA.
From that we have been
compensated from FEMA.
We got the full amount
of the grant money from FEMA.
It was deposited directly
into our account,
it took about a week,
no problems there.
The SBA has approved us
for the full amount of the money
for the loan, for the house
and our contents.
Now that we’ve gone
through this process
FEMA has helped us
with all of the grant money
and the SBA has helped us
with being approved for the loan.
Got to pick up and go on,
we’ve got our lives,
we got each other,
we're alive.
