Ensign Leggett is gonna kick it off with a safety brief and then the captain
is going to give a few remarks. Leggett: There's a lot of different runners here. We got runners that are going to be running
fast people, walking people and strollers. Runners that are running fast.
Watch out. It's a fun run. Don't take anyone out. It's not that kind of a run.
It's the Coast Guard We Remember 5k here in Port Arthur. We're doing one
to honor our fallen Coast Guard members
that died from 1978 to present. We had a pretty good turn out today.
A little over 100 people showed up to pay tribute.
We've set this up
to remember all the Coast Guard that have died in the line of duty.
A lot of people tend to forget that Coast Guard
are a military service here serving and we lose members as well.
Most recently we had Senior Chief Thorn
We had a few aircraft that have crashed recently
That's the main reason we set this up is to remember
our fellow Coast Guardsmen and women who have died in the line of service
I have been stationed with some of these Coast Guardsmen. I think a lot
of us have at one point or another after you spend some time in the service.
We're such a small service that
you're going to know people and you're going to be stationed with people whose names
are on the back of the t-shirt.
