Evelyn is dead because her husband was alleged to be having an affair with his secretary.
She wanted to draw her husband's attention away from this affair. She wanted to get her
husband to pay attention to her. And in order to get her husband's attention, she got herself
a little drunk.
Now, Evelyn, by her own admission, said she had never drank more than half a pint of whiskey
in one day in her life. We used to make a joke about her here. We used to say, "Evelyn,
we give you more *** here to sober you up than it took to get you drunk."
So Evelyn had a few drinks up there in Eureka, and the daughter panicked and got scared and
called down to this neck of the woods to dad, saying, "You better come and get mother and
take her down to Duffy's because she's very drunk and very sick."
Well, Evelyn accomplished what she wanted to do; she busted up the affair, because her
husband had to go up there to Eureka and get her. And he started driving down here with
her, he called from Eureka and made the arrangements for Evelyn to come here.
But then he called up, and he said, "Forget it. The strangest thing happened.
"Evelyn's dead. She was in the back of the car, she sounded like she was choking or gagging,
and by the time I stopped the car and opened up the back seat, she was dead."
And she convulsed for the first time in her life, and she died.
