My name is Tommy Lauterbach, I'm from Rockaway, New Jersey.
Currently, I'm a food science major
with a liberal arts/business minor.
I chose Penn State
mainly because of the name,
Penn State is known throughout the nation.
I decide to start my first two years at Penn State Hazleton because it's a smaller campus.
I felt really close to all the professors that I had in all my classes.
They knew my name, they helped me with whatever problems I had.
A lot of the times, if you just had a question about something simple,
they were right there listening
and sometimes if you had anything complicated, they were still there. They didn't care what time of the day it was.
The opportunities with reaearch are fantastic.
I mean, you could be an undergrad, you could be a graduate,
it doesn't matter, anything's possible.
One of my favorite professors is Dr. Peterson.
He helps me out with a lot of the research done in the labs,
help me as a person learn about what food science is and what I can do with it
throughout my years. Penn State's just given me tons of opportunities.
Within my major itself, I've found an internship Unilever. Some of their brands
are Skippy peanut butter, Breyer's ice cream,
and I think that that helps learn about the real world.
Looking back at my college career, I've changed dramatically.
I went from, you know,
not having a clue what I wanted to do in life
to focusing on really what I wanted to do,
knowing that food science was my major,
knowing that I have dreams and goals that I can come through with.
If I was to do it all over again, I would still choose two years at Penn State Hazleton
and finish the rest of my two years at University Park.
It really kind of changed the person I am to this day.
