Welcome to this screencast about the search and replace features inside PHPEdit.
PHPEdit provides you a powerful tool for searching and replacing text inside your files.
Enter some text you would like to search for,
enter a replacement text,
and use the buttons on the right to perform the desired task.
Search each occurrence on each own,
replace the current found one,
or maybe even replace all found items.
PHPEdits search is not limited to the current opened file.
For example you can open multiple files inside PHPEdit, enter some search condition,
select the right context on the left, and replace all occurrences inside these opened files.
Please remember that these opened files are not saved after the replace is finished, you need to handle that on your own.
PHPEdit also allows you to specify a directory inside which PHPEdit should search for the text.
Select the right context on the left, enter a condition, and press the button to find all.
Inside the search dock, you inspect your current search.
Even older searches, are available.
When you use the replace all command,
PHPEdit will walk through all matching occurrences and replace them inside each file.
When the replacement is finished, you will get a statistics window, about the performed task.
When you now refresh the find task from the dock, PHPEdit will find no occurrence.
There are some options available from the find and replace dialog.
Case sensitive will perform a search, and match all text that matches exactly the entered condition.
When there are some differences in the upper or lower case, PHPEdit will not treat them as a match.
Whole words can look for condition as a single word.
When the occurrence is found inside some other chars, not separated by space, it will not be used as a match.
Wrap at the end give you the possibility to start the search again at the top of the document, when there is no occurrences left until the end of the file.
This might be useful when you started a search in the middle of the document.
When you have some complex search conditions, you can enter a regular expression into the search field, and check the option for regular expressions.
The search condition will be used as such a expression, and match only items based on that one.
The last two options specify the direction and the origin of the search.
You can search for example backwards or search from the beginning of the file, ignoring where your caret is currently placed.
The last, maybe most integrated feature, inside the search and replace is find in files from a project or a solution.
When you have an opened project, and you would like to find some text inside it, use the context menu from the solution explorer.
PHPEdit will open the search and replace dialog, and select the special context „Solution Explorer Selection“.
When you perform a search, or a replacement, PHPEdit will only search inside the selected paths.
It is even possible to select multiple items from the project tree.
All results will be displayed inside the search results dock.
