We get a lot of college students who
call us because they've been arrested for drunk in public.
And sometimes, this is at football games,
it's at basketball games, it's at tailgate parties,
it's at fraternity parties where the person got really drunk
and got rowdy, and perhaps later got
in a *** match with the police.
And so they get arrested for drunk in public.
And the good news is, we've been able to get almost all
of these charges dismissed.
And it's so critical that we do, because even
though this is, technically, a low grade misdemeanor,
and even though people rarely do actual jail time,
even if they're convicted for drunk in public,
the fact is that, it is a crime.
It is a misdemeanor.
And if you are convicted, it goes
on your permanent criminal record.
Even if you later get it expunged,
if someone does a background check,
a prospective employer is going to see
that at least at one time, you were
convicted for drunk in public.
And it's a real red flag, because employers look at that,
and they think, is this person an alcoholic?
Do they have addiction issues?
Do they have behavior issues?
Are they irresponsible?
And you take two candidates who apply for a job,
and one of them has a clean record, and one of them
a conviction for drunk in public,
even in college, even back in the day,
it's very easy to pass over that person.
Because employers don't want to take chances.
Therefore, if you're in this situation, a young person,
a college student, you've been charged with this,
we urge you to call us here at Shouse Law Group.
Let us go to bat for you, and most likely
get this charge dismissed so that it's not
a demon that will come back to haunt you later on.
