Sergeant 1st Class Jared Monti gave his life trying to save a fellow soldier while serving in Afghanistan.
His family reflects on the love Monti had for his country and the people of Afghanistan.
He loved the people. He said, "They're really, really nice people, Dad."
And he enjoyed that.
And he thought he was doing the right thing.
I always told people Jared was out there to bring peace and love to the world.
That's what he wanted to do, and that's what he tried to do.
Paul Monti says he's proud of his son for doing the right thing.
He was a real soldier; he did what you're supposed to do.
He followed the Soldier's Creed to the letter,
only he would go above and beyond because he had to make sure that he did that.
